We live in an exciting time, where weddings can be pretty much anything you want them to. Brides and grooms have so many options to choose from for each and every area of their special day, which is always going to be a positive thing. However, with so many ideas, options, and inspiration out there; it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, and it’s easy to get carried away, or caught-up in comparisons to what you see online. Therefore, if you’re in the midst of planning your wedding, or are just beginning to, congratulations; it’s an exciting time, and you can make the whole process a joy – yes, really.
Start by stripping everything back to just you and your beloved; think about your loves, passions, personalities, and character. These are the things that should shape your wedding; staying true to yourselves will allow you to cherry pick the right things for your big occasion, and there’ll be no doubt in your guests minds that your wedding is full of your characters. The following are some things to consider, and a bit of inspiration for couples who want to give their wedding the personal touch and plenty of personality.

If you and your partner have a shared passion for something, or you both enjoy a particular activity regularly why not incorporate this into your day. Perhaps you met at a gig, and music is a shared love, or maybe, you’re really into food or a particular beverage. These are the things you can share with your guests throughout the day, and they can influence everything from the decor and table names, to what people are tucking into during the toast and speeches.
Perhaps it will impact the whole event; creating a festival wedding or a swish dinner party are great examples of when a couple is all about their dream celebration and want to share it with their guests. Once you’ve decided on the important theme of the day, or the elements that simply must be a part of it; you can begin building your wedding around it, and booking that wedding photo booth, chocolate fountain, or DJ.

As previously mentioned, you can incorporate your theme, character, and passion into your day as much or as little as you’d like. Guests will always appreciate those little details that just make sense, because they’re there celebrating your wedding. Therefore, it’s time to have fun with the little things at your wedding.
Maybe your confetti can be specific shapes; cakes, musical note, or flowers; table names could be the places you’ve travelled together, the bands you love, or the songs that mean the most. Your table decor and centrepieces can also reflect something that represents you both; perhaps you could save those special gin bottles and use them for fairy lights (hello!), or maybe shells and driftwood will reflect your love of a particular beach, or simply the sea. Your options really are endless, so before you go looking for inspo, it’s worth listing those things you hold dear, and you’ll create a dreamy space that everyone will appreciate.

Now even if you’re newly engaged or have a matter of weeks to go until the big day, make sure you take some time to relax and enjoy everything you are doing. Hopefully this is going to be the only wedding you plan, and it can be easy to get caught up in the midst of everything, especially when the costs are mounting up, but one thing I have told myself to do is to take each day as it comes and enjoy these moments, and think about the end where everything comes together.
