Planning A Mini-Moon With The Grand, York

February 13, 2019

York has been one of my favourite places to visit for as long as I can remember and holds a special place in my relationship as it was the first city break Jordan and I took together: Since then we’ve been back at least once a year too and it’s a place I’ll never get bored of.

When we first decided to get married in April, we did so with the intent to go on our honeymoon straight from the wedding over Easter weekend, but now we’ve decided to do it later in the year. Not only does it give us the time straight from the wedding to spend time with our friends and family (some of whom are coming all the way from the other side of the world – thanks guys!) but also to enjoy each other’s company in the comfort of our own home without anything wedding-related to do and kick start married life in our familiar settings instead of jetting off abroad.

We still would like to get away for a couple of nights to celebrate our marriage, and thought about doing a ‘mini-moon’ after the wedding where we will go somewhere for a few days instead of anything long haul. As we get married the weekend before Easter, that seemed like the perfect time to have a little break just the two of us, so I got my best planning hat on and started doing my research.

York was quickly one of the places I looked at because it is such a pretty city, but also holds loads of lovely memories for us as a couple. Whether you’re wandering the streets of the shambles, or being taken aback by the beautiful architecture, there is something truly magical about the place, and even more so by being some of the inspiration around Harry Potter.

The hotels in York can range from quaint little B&B’s to converted barns, slick city townhouses to luxury penthouses – there is really something for everyone. There are also a number of spa hotels in York, but the one that caught my eye was The Grand, which is a 5-star gem across the river.

The spa itself homes a 20-yard swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room, which would be the perfect place to celebrate something special or escape the crazy outside world for a few hours. They also have an array of treatment rooms where you can get a number of different treatments.

The great thing about The Grand is that no request is ever too much; rose petals on the bed? You got it. A romantic meal for two? Done. A guide of where to visit in York? It’s yours. As someone who has stayed in a fair few hotels in her time, I know it’s the little things that make your trip special and want to return in the future.

They are also offering a new activity for couples, The Cookery School, where you can do a range of classes from bakes, breads and pastries to chocolate trio and the classic fish and chips, which is the perfect activity to do with a loved one.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in an excellent location in the centre of York, I would definitely recommend looking at The Grand because it really is spectacular, and the cooking courses give you something different to do with your other half.

  1. This looks lovely! I’ve acrually never heard of a mini moon until now! I reckon it’s the way to go really, then you get something else to look forward to after your wedding if your honeymoon is later on in the year too! York looks lovely and this hotel looks so gorgeous! 😍
