As I write this, I’ve just checked in and been through passport control at St. Pancras International, for a little getaway to Lille, with Jordan before Christmas.
I’ve never been to Lille before, but I’ve heard that it is typically French and beautiful, especially in December, so I am looking forward to fitting in one more trip before we settle into being at home for Christmas.
Today I’ll be sharing some of the things I hope to get up to whilst we are there.
1. Try Typical French Food
When Hannah and I went to Paris back in June, one of the things we didn’t really take full advantage of was trying real French cuisine, which is something I definitely want to do this time around. If you haven’t guessed by now, I’m a bit of a foodie, and as far as I can remember, I haven’t had a French meal in quite a few years. Lille is known for having three Michelin starred restaurants (not that we’ll be trying here anytime soon) but I am looking forward to seeing what else is on offer.
2. Wander The Christmas Markets
When I was researching European Christmas markets back in autumn, Lille kept coming up time and time again as being one to visit. I love a traditional European market, and I feel as though a French one will have a unique charm to the others I’ve visited in the past.
3. Visit Old Lille
When reading about the town, I noticed that the cobbled streets of the old town kept coming up on the top things to do, which is definitely something I want to visit. I love any quaint little village, but even more when I get the chance to get lost and discover hidden gems that might be off the beaten track.
4. Parc Du Heron
Another thing I love to do in a new city is have a wander through a local park and take a few moments away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. Parc Du Heron seems like the perfect place to do just that, especially as the sun is setting.
5. Discover Marché De Wazemmes
I love a food and flower market at the best of times, and even more when abroad. The Marché De Wazemmes is every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, so I think it will be something we do on our last day to wind down after discovering the rest of the city.
And there you have my Lille bucket list for a few days visit to the city.
Make sure you are following me on Instagram to have a look at everything we get up to.
Have you been to Lille before? Is there anything you would recommend?
