AD // Four Ways I’ve Been Keeping Fit In Lockdown // Fabletics Review

July 2, 2020

Today’s post is a round-up of the ways that I’ve been keeping fit in lockdown, including sharing with you some of my favourite Fabletics pieces.

When the gyms closed back in March, I knew that I needed to stick to as much of a plan as possible and build working-out into my normal day-to-day routine otherwise I wouldn’t get it done. I’m used to working out at home, but I do love the feeling you get being surrounded by others in a class at the gym so I knew I had to shift my mindset to enjoy it more. I’ve also found that having a FitBit has encouraged me to keep it up!

On an average week, I would say that I work out 5/6 times a week and try to walk every lunchtime – I don’t have any goals to lose weight, but I’d rather focus on keeping a relatively high fitness level and the main reason I work out so much is to be able to eat what I want (in moderation) and I really think it keeps me sane after a hard day at work.

I was also very lucky to be gifted some pieces from Fabletics at the start of lockdown. Fabletics are one of my favourite brands for fitness-wear, especially their leggings as they don’t fall down! I would highly recommend trying them out and signing up as a VIP member to take advantage of their 2 pairs of leggings for £24 offer. My top choices are the High-Waisted PowerHold Leggings which I have three pairs of because they’re so comfy, and also the Mila High-Waisted Pocket Capri as they have a large mesh pocket on the side which is perfect for taking your phone out when you run. I love that most of the leggings come as high-waisted too as to me this is just far more comfortable – and the designs they have are bright and colourful too!

Here are the four ways I’ve been keeping fit in lockdown.

1) Les Mills Body Combat

I’ll start with my favourite workout which is Body Combat by Les Mills. I used to do this class three times a week at the gym, so as soon as I couldn’t anymore, I knew I had to download the app and continue from home. They had a free 2-week trial, but monthly it works out at around £12, which is cheaper than my gym membership.

The classes are boxing-inspired, and will definitely get you sweaty! They are a mix of martial arts and cardio, set to a really good backing track. In a normal body combat class, you would do the same routine for around 4-6 weeks before changing it up to the newest tracks, but with the app, you have the freedom of doing whichever you fancy!

2) Yoga

I’ve only recently started doing a bit more yoga, and mainly it’s because my muscles have been so sore as I’m rubbish at warming up and down at the end of a workout. I’ve only been doing 10-15 minutes a time (I get bored easily) and I try and fit it in before work.

It’s a really good way to start the day and I usually head to Yoga by Kassandra or Yoga by Sarah Beth on YouTube for a morning workout.

3) Running

Back in April, I set myself the challenge of running the equivalent of the London Marathon over a week as this year’s was postponed. I managed to raise £300 for Cancer Research UK in the process, and it really sparked my love of running again! I tried to do around 4-7km every day, depending on how I was feeling (and the Great British weather!) and I think I finished it in about 7 days.

I used to run quite a bit, but since having a gym membership (and a dodgy knee) I haven’t been getting out as much, but I love running outside, and we’re lucky that we live very close to a large park too. One of the great things about Fabletic’s leggings is that I can bring my phone with me for music, and put it in the mesh pocket without worrying!

4) Courtney Black

I was recommended Courtney Black‘s live Instagram workouts by my friend Hannah, and to be honest, I’d never heard of her before then. She does lives 6 days a week, and I try and join 1-2 of them because they are HARD! The first one I tried was a mixture of HIIT and weights and it killed me – I’m pretty sure I didn’t even finish it – but since then I’ve loved her energy and the workouts that she does.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t say these are for beginners, but the great thing is that you can take it at your own pace and have a little break if needs be. Courtney is also really motivational and wants women to feel confident in their body.

She also has an app for around £15 a month, where the live workouts get posted (as well as lots of others) and there are also loads of recipes on there too!

I hope this post has inspired you to look at some different ways of keeping fit during this time, and even into the future. I for one won’t be rushing back to the gym when it reopens, so it’s nice to be able to have the option to do what I want from home.
