10 Places For A UK Staycation
As we got the news yesterday that the lockdown measures would be easing from July 4th, I thought this would be a good time to round up some of the places you could go for a week away in the UK for a staycation or a long weekend.
The UK is such a beautiful place, and sometimes we get so wrapped up in going abroad, that we forget the beauty that’s on our doorstep.
Here are my 10 places for a UK staycation.

Lake District
The Lake District is one of my favourite places to visit, whether camping, in a cottage or traditional B&B. It’s an area of natural beauty, and not far at all from Manchester – the perfect excuse to discover more of it this year.
My favourite towns are Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick, which all support local businesses, have quaint little pubs and boat trips along the lakes.

Peak District
Another one that is based in the Northern part of the UK is the Peak District. This visit doesn’t necessarily have to be for longer than a day or two, and there are some amazing walks to do in this vast mountainous range.
My favourites are Kinder Scout and Dovestone to Chew reservoir.

Kent
I’ve never actually visited Kent, but it is on my to-visit list for this summer or next. I would suggest a few days down in the Southern county as there is so much to do and see – plus if you’re driving from the north then you definitely deserve a break!
I’d love to go to Margate, Deal and Whitstable for the quintessentially English feel to the towns, but also visit Dover for the spectacular views across to France and the white cliffs!

Brighton
I visited Brighton a few years ago for three nights, and there was still so much stuff that I didn’t fit in. We stayed in Kemptown which was a really good base to explore, but next time I visit, I’d quite like to try Hove for a few days.
The drive down is around 4.5 hours (not including stops) from up North, or you can get the train in about 3.5-4, but beware that you’ll have to go in and out of London so make sure that you don’t arrive at peak time.

Cornwall
Some of the photos I’ve seen of Cornwall over the past few years have looked almost as though they could have been taken on the Italian coast. The scenery on the peninsula is stunning, and the little fishing villages look so quintessentially British and fun to explore. I’ve only been to Cornwall once for a couple of nights and it wasn’t long enough to explore and take in the scenery – next time I’d like to try Newquay or St. Ives for a week!

Camber Sands
Camber Sands to me looks like it could be on the other side of the world! The UK has some stunning beaches, but the stretch on the South Coast looks like a little slice of heaven and somewhere I can’t wait to visit for a UK Staycation.

Weymouth
Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset and perfectly placed to discover more of the South Coast. With picturesque beaches and lots of boat trips to keep you busy, it’s the perfect place for a few days away!

Beaumaris
Once the travel restrictions are lifted a bit more in Wales, Beaumaris is top of my list! I’ve seen pictures from other bloggers as well and Google and it reminds me of a cute little Italian fishing village with all the pastel-coloured houses and clear blue seas. If you’re in the North West too, it’s less than a 2-hour drive so perfect for a day-trip or weekend away.

Whitby
Think typical English seaside town, eating fish and chips on the beach with a background of coloured beach huts, and you’ve got Whitby! The town of Whitby looks over the North Sea and is the perfect getaway if you live in the northern part of England and fancy a couple of days away.

Edinburgh
A little bit further afield, and maybe one to plan for a time in the future, but I couldn’t write this list and not mention my favourite UK city, Edinburgh! It has the hustle and bustle of a capital, but also the gorgeous old buildings and winding back streets that you’d find in a European city. If you book far enough in advance you should be able to get a good deal on the train too, which can take as little as 3 hours!
