When a new pizza place opens in my hometown, I’m all over it, but I won’t lie, it did take me a while to get down to Morley’s Restaurant in Hale, which is bad form in my books. Morley’s opened back in March and has been a firm favourite in Hale village since then for families and groups alike, and after my visit, it’s easy to see why.
The menu is a mix of sharing plates, pizza and ‘off the grill’ and the prices are really reasonable too. I’d heard really good things about the pizzas here and as pizza is one of the major food groups for me I couldn’t wait to try it – I’m a huge fan of the artisan movement that has swept the nation in the last couple of years, anything doughy and cheesy and I’m your gal, and it really lived up to the hype.
When I arrived, the blue and white awning outside welcomed me in, and I made my way over to the bar. As I grew up just down the road, I knew the owner, and it was lovely to catch up with him. The barmaid recommended a gin fizz cocktail, which was lovely, and I caught up with a few friends whilst having a quick read of the menu.
We were seated in a couple of booths next to each other as there was a big group of us, and I got to have a look at the decor of the rest of the place, which was a mixture of blues, whites and exposed brick – right up my street. They offered us some olives on ice, which were delicious and we had a read of the menu whilst having more cocktails.
I decided to go a little bit rogue and went for the vegan pizza, the Vegano, which came with shredded jackfruit, vegan cheese, peppers, spring onion and a pesto base. It was really lovely, but next time, I think I would go for a regular Margherita as vegan cheese seems to bloat me quite a lot, although the jackfruit was a really lovely alternative to what I would usually go for on a pizza.
They also treated us to a piece of seared tuna which only a couple of us fancied, and it was delicious. I’m a big seafood fan and tuna is one of my favourites and it was so flavoursome.
If you’re in the area or want a very tasty pizza and are willing to travel, then give Morley’s a go – you won’t be disappointed!
