Happy Holidays With Jet2

December 28, 2019

It’s not often that I go to blogging events anymore, not really for any other reason that this year I feel has been a bit of a manic one, both personally and professionally, but when Jet2 got in touch and asked whether I would like to attend their Christmas showcase, I thought, why the hell not! I’ve worked with Jet2 in the past and been to a couple of their events over the years, and I was excited to see what they had in store for us this time around.

I arrived at the Food Sourcery Cooking School which was only a 10-minute drive from my house and made a real difference than having to go into the centre of Manchester (hell) a couple of weekends before Christmas. I know a couple of people who had been to the cookery school before and said it was a great experience, and I am a fan of anywhere where I can eat food at the end of it.

We were introduced to the staff, given a glass of fizz and a few different canapes before we split off into groups for the activities; they have vegan bruschetta and pigs in blankets to nibble on (both incredible) whilst we listened to what was coming up. The first activity for my group was a cocktail making class, following by making festive blinis and then gyozas. I’ve done a couple of cooking classes in the past, but when I head that we were going to be making Japanese dumplings, I was raring to go as they’re one of my favourites!

My group sauntered on over to the back where we were introduced to our barman for the activity: Even though it was pre-12pm, we all really got into the swing of things. We started with a gingerbread martini, which was demonstrated to us first, and then we got to give it a go. Afterwards, we made a snowflake, which had in vanilla vodka, coconut puree and milk.

After the drinks, it was time to make blinis. We were split into three groups within the group – one of us did the batter and the frying of the base, then another group were making mushrooms, whilst we got the toppings in order to decorate at the end. There was an abundance of different herbs, smoked salmon and pickled carrots as well as the mushrooms for those crazy people who actually like them… Whilst we were making the blinis, a couple of us kept going back to the front for more fizz and pigs in blankets as they were delicious – it is Christmas after all! I can’t say I’ve ever made blinis before, but they were really simple and quick to make, and I can imagine if you had children or a bigger family, it would be a fun activity to all decorate them how you pleased.

The last activity whilst we were in the cookery school was making gyozas: I’m a huge fan of Asian food and always find myself ordering them if I see them on the menu. We were given slow-cooked turkey to tie in with the theme of Christmas and were taught how to wrap, steam and fry them so they were as tasty as possible.

After indulging in the food and drink that we made, it was time for our wreath making class, which is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve made a couple of flower crowns in the past, but this was completely different. We all started off with a foam wreath which we could sit twigs, leaves and decorations into, and some of them were absolutely beautiful. It was harder than I thought, but when we finished, they all looked superb and very different.

After the wreath making, the girls from Jet2 did a bit of a talk about the destinations you could travel to with the airline and we all started talking about our favourite Christmas breaks over the years. At the end of the afternoon, we had a mulled wine and mince pie to finish off the festivities and then it was time to head home!

I really enjoyed the day and afternoon I had with Jet2 events as they always go the extra mile to ensure that you have a great time and go above and beyond with their choice of activity.
