I never normally write posts about music or concerts I go to, as I just go to enjoy myself, switch off and absorb the atmosphere, but last weekend, I went to see Spice Girls on their Spice World tour and I immediately felt the need to come home and write about it.
I saw the Spice Girls twice growing up, and in all honesty, I never thought I would get the chance to again; but when they announced their tour last year, I knew I had to be there. I went with my friend Jacinta (who is also a huge fan) and we both said it felt so vividly like we were 7 again, watching them for the first time.
I am a child of the 90s and so Spice Girls were a huge part of me growing up, which was amazing in many ways; not only have their songs stuck with me throughout my teens and twenties (and given me some cracking karaoke material) they also portrayed the message of Girl Power to children everywhere, showing us that women deserve to be equals and taken seriously.
90s nostalgia is everywhere at the moment: Whether it’s going to see your favourite boyband at a festival, plastering your t-shirts with cartoon memorabilia, or bringing back the fashion trends of double denim, scrunchies and platform shoes – and I am here for it!
I have always been a fan of 90s nostalgia posts and they remind me of such an easy time, and the best era to grow up in, in my opinion – there was no social media encouraging us to compare ourselves to one another, summers were spent outdoors with friends who lived round the corner, and the music was some of the best out there.
The concert had such a brilliant atmosphere, and it was full of people around the same age as us, which I loved. Everyone was in such good spirits and there for a laugh and a dance, which is exactly my kind of vibe. It did make me quite emotional too hearing all the songs I loved and danced to so much as a child, but I loved every second of it.
If you are a fan of the Spice Girls like I am, you’ll be glad to know that they are back on our TV’s with a brand new advert which you can view by clicking the video below!
And if you recognised the title of this blog as being a Spice Girl’s lyric then you are definitely my kind of person!
