On the weekend after my birthday, Jordan and I went to the Lake District for a little weekend away to have a few chilled days and for me to milk the celebrations as long as possible. We stayed at Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat which was about 10 miles north of Keswick, where we have stayed once before a couple of years ago.
I absolutely love the Lake District: I just feel myself relaxing as soon as we had up the M6 and it really is such a beautiful little paradise, very close to home. We drove up on a Friday afternoon with the sun shining in on us and it was a lovely drive up just catching up and talking about our plans for the weekend.
When we arrived, we went straight to the reception to pick up our keys and have a little nosey around. We were shown where the bar was and restaurant, as well as the spa facilities and the gym: They also had a little corner shop if you needed to pick up any bits as the lodges themselves are self-catering.
They gave us our key in a really cute tin case, which they told us was ours to keep – a very charming way to keep them in your mind even after you’ve left: So far I’ve been using it to keep my jewellery in!
We drove into the ‘park’ where all the lodges were and I was surprised at how big it was. The lodges themselves are all detached from one another so you have your own little space. We pulled up at ours and took in the surroundings and how quiet and relaxing it was with the sound of sheep in the field behind.
The lodge had an outside decking area with a table and chairs, and as ours was on a hill, we had a gorgeous view over a field of daisies, which was beautiful. When we walked in, the bedroom was on the right-hand side, but we went straight through to the lounge area which had a kitchen and dining table too. The staff had very kindly left us cupcakes, prosecco and some local fudge on the kitchen island as a birthday present, with a card, which was such a thoughtful gesture and really got the weekend off on a high.
We went through to drop our bags into the bedroom and I was surprised at how big it was. Not only was there a king sized bed, but also a dressing table, two full wardrobes and an open plan bathroom with a shower, toilet and bath.
As it was a really sunny evening, we decided to go for a walk to get our bearings a bit more and watch the sunset over the fields that surrounded the retreat. There were loads of walks you could do using Keswick Lodge as your base, and they were all so beautiful with such stunning scenery that you’d be spoilt for choice.
Whilst we were on our walk, we could hear the animals in the fields next to us and saw so many wild rabbits (some baby ones too) and it was such a pleasant evening, just letting the stresses of real life melt away. We went back to our lodge to cook some dinner in the kitchen and relax for the evening.
Not only was there a huge TV in the lounge, they also had a selection of board games, which we took full advantage of after a couple of glasses of prosecco, and I remembered how bad at Cluedo I really am. It was a really lovely way to spend a few hours and quite refreshing to not be scrolling through social media aimlessly.
Before we got into the incredibly comfy bed, I decided to have a bath and read to make the most of our time away, and it was such a perfect way to spend the night after such a fun evening of doing nothing but unwinding.
The next morning, I woke up naturally with the sun shining in on us, and it was the most refreshed I’d felt in ages. I tend to suffer from stress quite a lot, especially during such a busy month, but I completely switched off at Keswick Reach, so much so that I barely reached for my phone all weekend, which is very unlike me, but very much needed.
If you’re after a home away from home situated in the gorgeous hills of the Lake District I could not recommend Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat more. I think sometimes it’s easy for us to forget that a staycation can be just as needed as going abroad, and I’ll be visiting the lakes as much as possible for some downtime in the near future.
